Let's Celebrate gifts. OPAM finishes.

This month for Lets Celebrate exchange, we made a traditional block to send to our partner. This is the block I sent to Kali. I chose the log cabin block because the first quilt I made consisted of this block and I have been hooked on quilting ever since. Fabrics used are from an old Three Sisters range. I also sent some fabric, ric rac, a small charm and a tissue holder.

Kali sent me the block below. I love the colours she has used. The little pattern is very cute and I can see myself making some of these very soon.   Thank you Kali, as always a wonderful exchange of gifts.

We now have to decide how to use the block and I have a couple of ideas floating around in my head already as does Kali.  Will be interesting to see how they turn out.
Thank you to Karen from Mrs Martins Quilt Shop for hosting Lets Celebrate. Kali and I have got to know each other quite well over the year and I'm sure we will continue to keep in touch when Lets Celebrate comes to an end in December. Only one more gift to make...... now what will that be I wonder?

As it is the end of the month, it is time to show my OPAM finishes for this month.
Today, I finished off the last of the bonbons I had started at retreat.
I also made a mug rug and table runner for Wendy.

This Gail Pan thread holder was made for Kali's birthday and the small tissue holder below for the block exchange.

In all I have 8 finishes this month.
Well, that's all from me tonight, am going to try to get some stitching done, so much to do and so little time. Christmas will be here before we know it.  Happy Stitching everyone...............

Sal July Project finished, OPAM.

Finished this little bag off last night just  24 hours before the deadline.  My first try at hexagons and I must say I sort of fell in love with them. Why have I always though they would be a nightmare to make I wonder? Anyway I can see a quilt made of hexagons in my future, just not sure when.
The bag is from Natalie Bird's Tis the Season book. I changed the stitchery from the penguin one as I liked the wording on this one and used more of my Nancy Halvorsen stash fabric to make the bag.

Isn't this one cute little bag even if I do say so myself. I love how these fabrics look together. So happy to have another finish to add to my OPAM list.
Happy Stitching, see you next time...........

Hot Rod Heaven, OPAM finish.

My husband, Chris,  has been in hot rod heaven for the last 5 days. He loves all things hot rod and always enjoys any event where he can spend time talking with his mates and checking out cars.  This weekend, the Nationals were on at Parklands Showgrounds at Southport on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Saturday and Sunday were Public Days, so all the entrants had their cars on show on the oval. Chris and I spent all one morning checking out the cars as he is in the process of building our second one so we especially wanted to check out the Tudors.  We now have a better idea as to how we want ours to look when it is finally finished. Below is how it looks today.
Our Model A Tudor. An original steel car built in 1928.

This is were Chris is at.  New chassis getting built.
We made lots of decisions on how it should look so will be interesting to see if we stick with them as building progresses.
Here are a few photos.

Got to watch the Trotting as a race meeting was on when we arrived.   The kids were covered with their own mini rods on display. Free rides as well.  Food Stalls.  Cars on the oval.  Cruising on the Trotting Track.
The winning car, bottom left. Can you guess what colour our new car might be ?  Just love that red.
To finish, a Show and Shine at Coolangatta and a walk on the beach.

Finally, here is what I sent Kali in the Let's Celebrate Swap. My last OPAM finish for March.

Thanks to my friend Michelle Ridgway of RagTag Stitchin for her wonderful bunny design.  When I saw it in one of my current magazines, I knew I had to stitch it and am so pleased with how it turned out. So that makes 7 finishes for March.
If you have made it through to the end, Thank you. I didn't get a chance to reply to all your lovely comments on my previous post so many thanks. I can assure you I had the very best time.  I also got to see my family as they came down to the coast to share lunch with us on Saturday.
Well must go, till next time Happy Stitching  ............

QLD Floods, Initial Heart Swap, OPAM

The last week has not been very kind to many people in Queensland and northern NSW. My heart goes out especially to the people of Bundaberg who not only had flooding but tornadoes as well. Where I live in Logan, we ended up having widespread flooding which we haven't had for many years. Our main road, the Mt Lindsay Highway, was cut as well as many smaller roads in my area so we were unable to get out for a few days.  We also lost power during the high winds and due to the amount of people in the same boat (over 250,000 lost power), didn't get it back for almost 4 days.  It really makes you appreciate the things you have, when you suddenly don't have them. We live in a semi rural area so depend on tanks for our water and electricity to pump the water into the house, luckily, we were able to borrow my son's generator which allowed us to get some water from the tank and keep essentials like the fridge and freezer on, so only lost a few food items that had melted. In the scheme of things though, the bit of inconvenience we experienced pales into comparison to what so many others have and are still going through. The rain has now stopped and the flood waters are going down but what has been left in it's wake, will take many months if not years to recover from. Below are a couple of photos from my local area
This is the main highway into Jimboomba.  Have seen it over this road a number of times but not quite as wide or high.

This is the park down the end of our street.  Play equipment can't be seen.  Water up to the top of the gas b-b-q. Water across the road.  I have lived here for 20 years and have never seen this much water here.

On a lighter note, my cat Oscar spent most of the day doing what he does best.
I was able to do a little sewing yesterday and managed to finish my Initial Heart Swap gift.  I popped this in the post today so it should be landing in .....?...... letter box next week.

Also I have put the OPAM logo on my side bar as I have joined up again for another year. Thanks Kris and Peg for running this in 2013.  I know it takes a lot of your time at the end of the month, so really appreciate the encouragement you give us to get those UFO's finished. I have finished 3 items for January.

I also joined the 6 month Button Club over at Theodora Cleave.  I was absolutely amazed at what  arrived in the first parcel.  Below is what I received.

All the buttons,  screen printed fabric with a number of designs and a button booklet.  I think Barb is going to run another one starting in April.  If you are interested, go and check out the blog.  Just click on Theadora Cleave above.
Well, I am going to close now. Because of my lack of sewing machine and computer access this week, I have lots to catch up on including seeing what you all have been up to, so will be back when I have more to show and tell.  Until then stay safe......  Hugs...
